في تفسير علي بن إبراهيم وفى رواية أبى الجارود عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام في قوله عز وجل انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا قال: نزلت هذه الآية في رسول الله وعلي بن أبي طالب وفاطمة والحسن والحسين صلوات الله عليهم، وذلك في بيت أم سلمة زوج النبي فدعا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله عليا (أمير المؤمنين خ ل) وفاطمة والحسن والحسين صلوات الله عليهم ثم ألبسهم كساء له خيبريا ودخل معهم فيه، ثم قال: اللهم هؤلاء أهل بيتي وعدتني فيهم مما وعدتني، اللهم اذهب عنهم الرجس وطهرهم تطهيرا، فقالت أم سلمة: وانا معهم يا رسول الله؟قال:  أبشري يا أم سلمة فإنك إلى خير

In Tafsir `Ali b. Ibrahim: In the riwaya of Abu’l Jarud from Abu Ja`far عليه السلام, regarding His عز وجل saying, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification.” (33:33) He said: This verse was revealed regarding the Messenger of Allah, `Ali b. Abi Talib, Fatima, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn صلوات الله عليهم. That was in the house of Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله then called `Ali, Fatima, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn صلوات الله عليهم, covered them with a Khaybari cloak of his, and joined them in it. Then, he said: O Allah, this is my Ahl al-Bayt. You have promised me regarding them what You have promised me. O Allah, remove uncleanliness from them and purify them with a thorough purification. So Umm Salama said: Am I from them, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Be glad, O Umm Salama, for you are good.

 

في عيون الأخبار في باب ذكر مجلس الرضا عليه السلام مع المأمون في الفرق بين العترة والأمة حديث طويل وفيه فقال المأمون: من العترة الطاهرة؟فقال الرضا عليه السلام: الذين وصفهم الله تعالى في كتابه فقال تعالى: (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا) وهم الذين قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: انى مخلف فيكم الثقلين كتاب الله وعترتي أهل الا وانهما لن يفترقا حتى يردا على الحوض فانظروا كيف تخلفوني فيهما، أيها الناس لا تعلموهم فإنهم أعلم منكم

In `Uyun al-Akhbar: In the chapter on ar-Rida’s discussion with al-Ma’mun on the difference between the progeny and the Umma, in a long hadith in which it says:

Al-Ma’mun said: Who are the pure progeny? So ar-Rida عليه السلام said: Those whom Allah تعالى described in His Book, for He تعالى says, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33), and they are the ones [regarding whom] the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله said: “Surely, I leave among you the two weighty things: The Book of Allah, and my progeny, my Ahl al-Bayt. Surely, they will not part from one another until they return to me at the Pond. Be careful how you treat them after me. O people, do not teach them, for they know more than you.

وفيه في هذا الباب يقول الرضا عليه السلام في الحديث المذكور والآية الثانية في الاصطفاء قوله عز وجل: (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت و يطهركم تطهيرا) وهذا الفضل الذي لا يجهله أحد معاند أصلا، لأنه فضل بعد طهارة تنتظر، فهذه الثانية

And in this chapter, ar-Rida عليه السلام says in the cited hadith:

And the second verse regarding their designation (al-istifa’) is His عز وجل saying, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33). This is a virtue that is not unknown even to a stubborn person, because it is a clear virtue (?); so this is the second.

 

في كتاب الخصال في احتجاج علي عليه السلام على أبى بكر قال: فأنشدك بالله إلى ولأهلي وولدي آية التطهير من الرجس أم لك ولأهل بيتك؟قال: بل لك ولأهل – بيتك، قال: فأنشدك بالله انا صاحب دعوة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وأهلي وولدي يوم الكساء اللهم هؤلاء أهلي إليك لا إلى النار أم أنت؟ قال: بل أنت وأهل بيتك

In al-Khisal:

In the challenge of `Ali عليه السلام against Abi Bakr, he said: I adjure you by Allah – was the verse of purification from uncleanliness revealed regarding me, my family, and my children, or was it revealed regarding you and the people of your household? He said: No, rather, regarding you and your household. He said: I adjure you by Allah – did the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله call me, my family, and my children on the Day of the Cloak, and say “O Allah, this is my family. To You, not to the Fire”, or [did he call] you? He said: No, rather, regarding you and your household.

 

وفيه أيضا في احتجاجه عليه السلام على الناس يوم الشورى قال: أنشدكم الله هل فيكم أحد أنزل الله فيه آية التطهير على رسوله صلى الله عليه وآله (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا) فاخذ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله كساءا خيبريا فضمني فيه وفاطمة والحسن والحسين، ثم قال: يا رب هؤلاء أهل بيتي فاذهب عنهم الرجس وطهرهم تطهيرا غيري؟قالوا: اللهم لا

And on the Day of the Council, in his عليه السلام challenge against the people: I adjure you by Allah – other than me, has any of you had the verse of purification revealed regarding you by Allah to His Messenger صلى الله عليه وآله, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33), [after which] the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله took a Khaybari cloak and covered me, Fatima, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn with it, then he said: “O Lord, this is my Ahl al-Bayt, so remove uncleanliness from them and purify them with a thorough purification.” They said: O Allah, no.

 

وفيه أيضا في مناقب أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام وتعدادها قال عليه السلام: وأما السبعون فان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله نام ونومني وزوجتي فاطمة وابنى الحسن والحسين وألقى علينا عباء قطوانية فأنزل الله تعالى فينا (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا) فقال جبرئيل عليه السلام: انا منكم يا محمد فكان سادسنا جبرئيل

And in the Manaqib of Amir al-Mu’mineen عليه السلام:

He عليه السلام said: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله lay himself, me, my wife Fatima, and my sons al-Hasan and al-Husayn down, and cast a shuffling cloak upon us. Then, Allah تعالى revealed regarding us, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33). So Jibra’il عليه السلام said: I am from you, O Muhammad. So the sixth of us was Jibra’il.

 

في كتاب كمال الدين وتمام النعمة باسناده إلى سليم بن قيس الهلالي عن أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام أنه قال في أثناء كلام له في جمع من المهاجرين والأنصار في المسجد أيام خلافة عثمان: أيها الناس أتعلمون ان الله عز وجل أنزل في كتابه (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا) فجمعني وفاطمة وابنى حسنا وحسينا وألقى علينا كساه وقال: اللهم ان هؤلاء أهل بيتي ولحمتي يؤلمني ما يولمهم، ويحرجني ما يحرجهم، فاذهب عنهم الرجس وطهرهم تطهيرا فقالت أم سلمة: وانا يا رسول الله؟فقال: أنت – أو انك – على خير، انما أنزلت في وفى أخي وابنتي وفى تسعة من ولد ابني الحسين خاصة ليس معنا فيها أحد غيرنا؟فقالوا كلهم: نشهد ان أم سلمة حدثنا بذلك. فسألنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله فحدثنا كما حدثتنا أم سلمة رضي الله عنها

In Kamal ad-Deen wa Tamam an-Ni`ma:

By its isnad to Sulaym b. Qays al-Hilali from Amir al-Mu’mineen عليه السلام that he said whilst talking in a gathering of the Muhajireen and Ansar in the mosque in the days of the Caliphate of `Uthman: O people! Did you know that Allah عز وجل revealed in His Book, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33), so [the Messenger of Allah] gathered me, Fatima, and my sons al-Hasan and al-Husayn, and cast a cloak upon us, and said: “O Allah, this is my Ahl al-Bayt. My flesh hurts me for what will happen to them, and I am discomforted by what discomforts them, so remove uncleanliness from them and purify them with a thorough purification.” So Umm Salama said: “And me, O Messenger of Allah?” So he said: “You” – or “Surely, you” – “are upon goodness.” It was revealed specifically regarding me, my brother, my two sons, and nine from the descendants of my son al-Husayn, and no one besides us. So they all said: We bear witness that Umm Salama told us this, so we asked the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله, and he narrated it to us just as Umm Salama رضي الله عنها did.

 

في كتاب علل الشرايع باسناده إلى ابن أبي عمير عمن ذكره عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: لما منع أبو بكر فاطمة عليها السلام فدكا وأخرج وكيلها جاء أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام: إلى المسجد وأبو بكر جالس وحوله المهاجرون والأنصار فقال:  يا أبا بكر لم منعت فاطمة ما جعله رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله لها ووكيلها فيه منذ سنين إلى قوله: فقال أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام لأبي بكر: يا أبا بكر تقرأ القرآن؟قال: بلى، قال: فأخبرني عن قول الله عز وجل: (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا) فينا أو في غيرنا نزلت؟قال: فيكم، قال: فأخبرني لو أن شاهدين مسلمين شهدا على فاطمة عليها السلام بفاحشة ما كنت صانعا؟قال: كنت أقيم عليها الحد كما أقيم على نساء المسلمين، قال: كنت اذن عند الله من الكافرين، قال: ولم؟قال: لأنك كنت ترد شهادة الله وتقبل شهادة غيره، لان الله عز وجل قد شهد لها بالطهارة فإذا رددت شهادة الله وقبلت شهادة غيره كنت عند الله من الكافرين، قال: فبكى الناس وتفرقوا ودمدموا والحديث طويل أخذنا منه موضع الحاجة

In `Ilal ash-Shara’i`: By its isnad to Ibn Abi `Umayr from whom he narrated from from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام.

He said: When Abi Bakr prevented Fatima عليها السلام from Fadak, and ousted her caretaker, Amir al-Mu’mineen عليه السلام came to the mosque, and Abi Bakr was sitting with the Muhajireen and the Ansar around him. So he said: O Abi Bakr! Why did you prevent Fatima and her caretaker from what the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله gave her years ago? O Abi Bakr! Do you recite the Quran? He said: Of course. He said: So tell me about the saying of Allah عز وجل, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33) – was it revealed regarding us, or other than us? He said: Regarding you. He said: So inform me, if Muslim witnesses were to accuse Fatima عليها السلام of lewdness, what would you do? He said: I would punish her just as I would push other Muslim women. He said: Then to Allah, you would be of the disbelievers. He said: Why? He said: Because you would have rejected the testimony of Allah and accepted the testimony of other than Him, because Allah عز وجل testified of her purity. Thus, if you reject the testimony of Allah and accept the testimony of other than Him, then to Allah, you would be of the disbelievers. So the people wept, dispersed, and grumbled.

And the hadith is long, and we took the necessary portion from it.

 

وباسناده إلى عبد الرحمن بن كثير قال: قلت لأبي عبد الله عليه السلام ما عنى الله عز وجل بقوله تعالى: (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا) قال: نزلت هذه الآية في النبي وأمير المؤمنين والحسن والحسين وفاطمة عليهم السلام، فلما قبض الله عز وجل نبيه صلى الله عليه وآله كان أمير المؤمنين ثم الحسن ثم الحسين عليهم السلام، ثم وقع تأويل هذه الآية: (وأولوا الأرحام بعضهم أولى ببعض في كتاب الله) وكان علي بن الحسين عليهما السلام، ثم جرت في الأئمة من ولده الأوصياء عليهم السلام فطاعتهم طاعة الله ومعصيتهم معصية الله عز وجل

By its isnad to `Abd ar-Rahman b. Katheer.

He said: I said to Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام: What did Allah عز وجل mean by His تعالى saying, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33)? He said: This verse was revealed regarding the Prophet, Amir al-Mu’mineen, al-Hasan, al-Husayn, and Fatima عليهم السلام. When Allah عز وجل caused His Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله to pass away, it was Amir al-Mu’mineen, then al-Hasan, then al-Husayn عليهم السلام. Then, the interpretation of this verse was applied, “And those of blood ties are more entitled in the Book of Allah” (33:6), and it was `Ali b. al-Husayn عليهما السلام. Then, it passed through the Imams from his loins; the deputies عليهم السلام. Obedience of them is obedience of Allah, and disobedience of them is disobedience of Allah عز وجل.

 

في كتاب معاني الأخبار حدثنا أبي ومحمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد رضي الله عنه قالا: حدثنا عبد الله بن جعفر الحميري عن محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب قال: حدثنا النضر بن شعيب عن عبد الغفار الخازن عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام في قول الله عز وجل: (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا) قال: الرجس هو الشك

In Ma`ani al-Akhbar: My father and Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Waleed رضي الله عنه narrated to us. They said: `Abdullah b. Ja`far al-Himyari narrated to us from Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abu’l Khattab. He said: An-Nadr b. Shu`ayb narrated to us from `Abd al-Ghaffar al-Khazin from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام regarding the saying of Allah عز وجل, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33).

He said: Uncleanliness is doubt.

 

في أصول الكافي عدة من أصحابنا عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى عن ابن فضال عن المفضل بن صالح عن محمد بن علي الحلبي عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام في قوله:  (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا) يعنى الأئمة عليهم السلام من ولايتهم من دخل فيها دخل في بيت النبي صلى الله عليه وآله

In Usul al-Kafi: Several of our companions from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa from Ibn Faddal from al-Mufaddal b. Salih from Muhammad b. `Ali al-Halabi from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام regarding His saying, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33): It refers to the Imams عليهم السلام and their wilaya. Whomever enters it has entered into the house of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله.

 

علي بن إبراهيم عن محمد بن عيسى عن يونس وعلي بن محمد عن سهل بن زياد أبي سعيد عن محمد بن عيسى عن يونس عن ابن مسكان عن أبي بصير عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام وذكر حديثا طويلا يقول فيه عليه السلام حاكيا عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وقال: أوصيكم بكتاب الله وأهل بيتي فانى سألت الله عز وجل ان لا يفرق بينهما حتى يوردهما على الحوض فأعطاني ذلك، وقال: لا تعلموهم فإنهم أعلم منكم، وقال: انهم لن يخرجوكم من باب هدى ولن يدخلوكم في باب ضلالة، فلو سكت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله ولم يبين من أهل بيته لادعاها آل فلان وآل فلان، ولكن الله عز وجل أنزله في كتابه لنبيه (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا) فكان على والحسن و الحسين وفاطمة عليهم السلام، فادخلهم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله تحت الكساء في بيت أم سلمة، ثم قال: اللهم ان لكل نبي أهلا وثقلا وهؤلاء أهل بيتي وثقلي، فقالت أم سلمة: ألست من أهلك؟فقال: انك إلى خير ولكن هؤلاء أهلي وثقلي، وفى آخر الحديث وقال: الرجس هو الشك والله لا نشك في ربنا أبدا

محمد بن يحيى عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى عن محمد بن خالد والحسين بن سعيد عن النضر بن سويد عن يحيى بن عمران الحلبي عن أبي بصير عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام مثل ذلك

 

`Ali b. Ibrahim from Muhammad b. `Isa from Yunus and `Ali b. Muhammad from Sahl b. Ziyad. Abi Sa`eed from Muhammad b. `Isa from Yunus from Ibn Muskan from Abu Baseer from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام.

He mentioned a long hadith in which he عليه السلام said: From the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله, he said: “I entrust you with the Book of Allah and my Ahl al-Bayt. I have asked Allah عز وجل two not separate them until they return to me at the Pond, and He has granted me that.”

And he said: “Do not teach them, for they know more than you.”

And he said: “They will not take you out of the door of guidance, and they will not enter you into the door of misguidance.”

[The Imam said:] If the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله were silent, and did not mention who his Ahl al-Bayt were, then the family of fulan and the family of fulan would have usurped that. However, Allah عز وجل revealed it in His Book to His Prophet, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33) – that was `Ali, al-Hasan, al-Husayn, and Fatima عليهم السلام. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله entered with them beneath the cloak in the house of Umm Salama, and said: “O Allah, for every prophet there is a family and a weighty thing, and this is my family and my weighty thing.” So Umm Salama said to him: “Am I not from your family?” So he said: “You are are good, but this is my family and my weighty thing.”

And at the end of the hadith, he said: Uncleanliness is doubt, and by Allah, we never doubt our Lord.

Muhammad b. Yahya from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa from Muhammad b. Khalid and al-Husayn b. Sa`eed from an-Nadr b. Suwayd from Yahya b. `Imran al-Halabi from Abu Baseer from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام narrated something like this.

 

علي بن إبراهيم عن أبيه عن حماد عن ربعي عن زرارة عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال: سمعته يقول: انا لا نوصف وكيف يوصف قوم رفع الله عنهم الرجس وهو الشك، والحديث طويل أخذنا منه موضع الحاجة

`Ali b. Ibrahim from his father from Hamad from Rabee` from Zurara from Abu Ja`far عليه السلام.

He said: I heard him say: We cannot described, for how can a people from whom Allah has removed uncleanliness, meaning doubt, be described?

And the hadith is long, and we took the necessary portion from it.

 

في تفسير علي بن إبراهيم حدثني أبي عن ابن أبي عمير عن حماد بن عيسى وحماد بن عثمان عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: لما بويع لأبي بكر واستقام له الامر على جميع المهاجرين والأنصار بعث إلى فدك من أخرج وكيل فاطمة عليها السلام إلى أن قال فقال أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام: يا أبا بكر تقرأ كتاب الله؟قال: نعم قال: فأخبرني عن قول الله تعالى: (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم) تطهيرا فيمن نزلت أفينا أم في غيرنا؟قال: بل فيكم، قال: فلو ان شاهدين شهدا على فاطمة بفاحشة ما كنت صانعا؟قال: كنت أقيم عليها الحد كما أقيم على ساير المسلمين، قال: كنت إذا عند الله من الكافرين، قال: ولم؟قال: لأنك رددت شهادة الله لها بالطهارة وقبلت شهادة الناس عليها كما رددت حكم الله وحكم رسوله ان جعل لها فدكا وقبضته في حياته، ثم قبلت شهادة أعر أبى بائل على عقبيه عليها، و أخذت منها فدكا، وزعمت أنه فيئ للمسلمين؟وقد قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: البينة على من ادعى واليمين على من ادعى عليه؟قال: فدمدم الناس وبكى بعضهم فقالوا: صدق الله ورجع على إلى منزله، والحديث بتمامه مذكور في الروم عند قوله تعالى: (وآت ذا القربى حقه)

In Tafsir `Ali b. Ibrahim: My father narrated to me from Ibn Abi `Umayr from Hamad b. `Isa and Hamad b. `Uthman from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام.

He said: When Abi Bakr was given the pledge of allegiance, and he assumed power over the Muhajireen and the Ansar, he sent for the caretaker of Fatima عليها السلام to be ousted from Fadak. So Amir al-Mu’mineen عليه السلام said: O Abi Bakr! Do you recite the Quran? He said: Of course. He said: So tell me about the saying of Allah عز وجل, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33) – was it revealed regarding us, or other than us? He said: Regarding you. He said: So inform me, if Muslim witnesses were to accuse Fatima عليها السلام of lewdness, what would you do? He said: I would punish her just as I would push other Muslim women. He said: Then to Allah, you would be of the disbelievers. He said: Why? He said: Because you would have rejected Allah’s testimony of her purification, and accepted the testimony of the people against her; just as you rejected the ruling of Allah and the ruling of His Messenger in giving her Fadak during his life time … And you took Fadak from her, and you alleged that it is a fayy of the Muslims? The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله said: “The onus of proof is upon the claimant, and the oath is taken from he whom the claim is against.” So the people grumbled, and some of them wept, so they said: Allah has spoken the truth. And `Ali returned to his house.

The hadith in its entirety is mentioned in Surat ar-Rum, at His تعالى saying, “So give the relative his right” (30:38).

 

وباسناده إلى حذيفة بن اليمان عن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وذكر حديثا طويلا وفيه يقول: صلى الله عليه وآله: ثم جعل القبائل بيوتا فجعلني في خيرها بيتا، وذلك قوله: انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا

By its isnad to Hudhayfa b. al-Yaman from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله. And he mentioned a long hadith in which he صلى الله عليه وآله said: Then, He made families [for] the tribes, and He put me in the best of their families, and that is His saying, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33)

 

في الكافي علي بن إبراهيم عن أبيه عن بكر بن صالح عن القاسم بن بريد عن أبي عمرو الزبيري عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام حديث طويل يقول فيه عليه السلام: ثم ذكر من اذن له في الدعاء بعده وبعد رسوله في كتابه فقال: (ولتكن منكم أمة يدعون إلى الخير ويأمرون بالمعروف وينهون عن المنكر وأولئك هم المفلحون) ثم أخبر عن هذه الأمة وممن هي وانها من ذرية إبراهيم ومن ذرية إسماعيل من سكان الحرم ممن لم يعبدوا غير الله قط، الذين وجبت لهم الدعوة دعوة إبراهيم وإسماعيل من أهل المسجد الذين أخبر عنهم في كتابه أنه اذهب عنهم الرجس وطهرهم تطهيرا

In al-Kafi: `Ali b. Ibrahim from his father from Bakr b. Salih from al-Qasim b. Burayd from Abi `Amr az-Zubayri from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام in a long hadith in which he عليه السلام said: Then, He mentioned those whom He permitted to [lead] the call [to Allah] after Himself and after His Messenger in His Book, for He said, “Let there be from you a nation that invites to goodness, enjoins in the established virtues and forbids what is evil. Those are the successful.” (3:104) Then, He spoke about this nation and whom it refers to. And surely it is from the descendants of Ibrahim and Isma`il, from the dwellers of the Sanctuary, who worship none but Allah. They are those for whom the call is obligatory – the call of Ibrahim and Isma`il – from the people of the Mosque whom He spoke about in His Book; that He removed uncleanliness from them and purified them with a thorough purification.

 

في كتاب الاحتجاج للطبرسي رحمه الله عن علي بن الحسين عليهما – السلام حديث طويل يقول فيه لبعض الشاميين: فهل تجد لنا في سورة الأحزاب حقا خاصة دون المسلمين؟فقال: لا، قال علي عليه السلام: اما قرأت هذه الآية: انما يزيد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا

In Kitab al-Ihtijaj of Tabrisi رحمه الله from `Ali b. al-Husayn عليهما السلام in a long hadith in which he says to some Syrians: Do you see a special reality that Allah has given to us, apart from the Muslims, in Surat al-Ahzab? So they said: No. `Ali عليه السلام said: Have you not read the verse, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33)?

 

في أمالي الصدوق رحمه الله باسناده إلى أبي بصير قال: قلت للصادق جعفر بن محمد عليهما السلام: من آل محمد؟قال ذريته، قلت: من أهل بيته؟قال: الأئمة الأوصياء فقلت: من عترته؟قال: أصحاب العباء، فقلت: من أمته؟قال: المؤمنون الذين صدقوا بما جاء به من عند الله عز وجل المتمسكون بالثقلين الذين أمروا بالتمسك بهما كتاب الله وعترته أهل بيته الذين اذهب الله عنهم الرجس وطهرهم تطهيرا، وهما الخليفتان على الأمة بعد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله

In the Amali of as-Saduq رحمه الله:

By its isnad to Abu Baseer. He said: I said to as-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad عليهما السلام: Who is the Family of Muhammad? He said: His descendants. So I said: Whom are his Ahl al-Bayt? He said: The Imams, the deputies. So I said: Whom are his progeny? He said: The companions of the cloak. So I said: Whom is his Umma? He said: The believers who affirmed what he came with from Allah عز وجل, who grasp onto the two weighty things that they were ordered to grasp onto, the Book of Allah and his progeny, his Ahl al-Bayt, from whom Allah has removed uncleanliness and purified with a thorough purification. They are the two vicegerents (khalifatan) over the Umma after the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله.

 

في مجمع البيان وقال أبو سعيد الخدري وأنس بن مالك ووائل بن الأسقع وعائشة وأم سلمة: ان الآية مختصة برسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وعلى وفاطمة والحسن و الحسين عليهم السلام، ذكر أبو حمزة الثمالي في تفسيره حدثني شهر بن حوشب عن أم سلمة قالت: جاءت فاطمة إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وآله تحمل هريرة لها فقال: ادعى زوجك وابنيك فجائت بهم فطعموا ثم ألقى عليهم كساء له خيبريا وقال: اللهم هؤلاء أهل بيتي و عترتي فاذهب عنهم الرجس وطهرهم تطهيرا فقلت: يا رسول الله: وأنا معهم؟قال صلى الله عليه وآله: أنت على خير

In Majma` al-Bayan:

Abu Sa`eed al-Khudri and Anas b. Malik and Wa’el b. al-Asqa` and `A’isha and Umm Salama said: The verse is specific to the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله, `Ali, Fatima, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn عليهم السلام.

Abu Hamza ath-Thumali mentioned in his tafsir: Shahr b. Hawbash narrated to me from Umm Salama. She said: Fatima came to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله carrying a kitten that belonged to her, so he said: Call your husband and your two sons. So she brought them and they ate. Then, he cast a Khaybari cloak onto them and said: O Allah, this is my Ahl al-Bayt and my progeny, so remove uncleanliness from them and purify them with a thorough purification. So I said: O Messenger of Allah, am I from them? He صلى الله عليه وآله said: You are upon goodness.

 

وروى الثعلبي في تفسيره أيضا بالاسناد عن أم سلمة ان النبي صلى الله عليه وآله كان في بيتها فأتته فاطمة ببرمة فيها هريرة فقال لها: ادعى زوجك وابنيك فذكرت الحديث نحو ذلك، ثم قالت: فأنزل الله: (انما يريد الله) الآية، قالت: فأخذ فضل الكساء فغشاهم به، ثم أخرج يده فالوى بها إلى السماء، ثم قال: اللهم هؤلاء أهل بيتي وحامتي فاذهب عنهم الرجس وطهرهم تطهيرا، فأدخلت رأسي البيت وقلت: وأنا معكم يا رسول الله؟قال إنك إلى خير

And ath-Tha`labi also narrated in his tafsir by an isnad from Umm Salama that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله was in her house when Fatima came to her with a stone pot with a kitten inside it. He said to her: Call your husband and your two sons.

Then she mentioned the hadith from there, then she said: So Allah revealed, “Surely, Allah only wants” (33:33). She said: Then he took the cloak and covered them with it. Then, he took his hand out and pointed toward the sky, then he said: O Allah, this is my Ahl al-Bayt and my family, so remove uncleanliness from them and purify them with a thorough purification. So I poked my head into the house and I said: Am I from them, O Messenger of Allah? He said: You are good.

 

وباسناده قال مجمع: دخلت أمي على عائشة فسألتها أمي أرأيت خروجك يوم الجمل؟قالت: إنها كانت قدرا من الله، فسألتها عن علي فقالت: تسأليني عن أحب الناس كان إلى رسول الله، وزوج أحب الناس كانت إلى رسول الله، لقد رأيت عليا وفاطمة وحسنا وحسينا قد جمع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله بثوب عليهم ثم قال: اللهم ان هؤلاء أهل بيتي وحامتي فاذهب عنهم الرجس وطهرهم تطهيرا، قالت: فقلت: يا رسول الله أنا من أهلك؟قال: تنحى فإنك إلى خير

By its isnad, Majma` said: I entered with my mother upon `A’isha, and my mother asked her: Have you looked to your rebellion on the Day of the Camel? She said: Surely, it was destined by Allah. So she asked her about `Ali, so she said: You have asked me about the most beloved of people to the Messenger of Allah, who married the most beloved of people to the Messenger of Allah. I saw `Ali, Fatima, Hasan, and Husayn gathered with the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله under a robe, then he said: “O Allah, this is my Ahl al-Bayt and my family, so remove uncleanliness from them and purify them with a thorough purification.” She said: So she said: O Messenger of Allah, am I from your family? He said: Step aside, for you are good.

 

وباسناده عن أبي سعيد الخدري عن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله قال: نزلت هذه الآية في خمسة في وفي علي وحسن وحسين وفاطمة

By its isnad from Abu Sa`eed al-Khudri from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله. He said: This verse was revealed regarding five: myself, `Ali, Hasan, Husayn, and Fatima.

 

وأخبرنا السيد أبو الحمد قال: حدثنا الحاكم أبو القاسم الحسكاني قال: حدثونا عن أبي بكر السبيعي قال: حدثنا أبو عروة الحراني قال: حدثني ابن مصغى قال: حدثنا عبد الرحيم بن واقد عن أيوب بن سيار عن محمد بن المنكدر عن جابر قال: نزلت هذه الآية على النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وليس في البيت الا فاطمة والحسن والحسين وعلى: (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت) فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وآله: اللهم هؤلاء أهلي

And as-Sayyid Abu’l Hamad narrated to us. He said: al-Hakim Abu’l Qasim al-Hasakani narrated to us. He said: Abu Bakr as-Sabi`i narrated to us. He said: Abu `Urwa al-Hirani narrated to us. He said: Ibn Masgha narrated to us. He said: `Abd ar-Raheem b. Waqid narrated to us from Ayyub b. Sayyar from Muhammad b. al-Munkar from Jabir.

He said: This verse was revealed to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله when no one was in the house except Fatima, al-Hasan, al-Husayn, and `Ali, “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt” (33:33). So the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله said: O Allah, this is my family.

 

وحدثنا السيد أبو الحمد قال حدثنا الحاكم أبو القاسم باسناده عن زاذان عن الحسن بن علي قال: لما نزلت آية التطهير جمعنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وإياه في كساء لام سلمة خيبري ثم قال: اللهم هؤلاء أهل بيتي وعترتي

And as-Sayyid Abu’l Hamad narrated to us. He said: al-Hakim Abu’l Qasim narrated to us by his isnad from Zadhan from al-Hasan b. `Ali.

He said: When the verse of purification was revealed, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله brought us with him into a Khaybari cloak that belonged to Umm Salama. Then, he said: “O Allah, this is my Ahl al-Bayt and my progeny.”

 

في تفسير العياشي عن زرارة عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال: ليس شئ أبعد من عقول الرجال من تفسير القرآن، ان الآية ينزل أولها في شئ وأوسطها في شئ وآخرها في شئ، ثم قال: (انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت ويطهركم تطهيرا) من ميلاد الجاهلية

In Tafsir al-`Ayashi:

From Zurara from Abu Ja`far عليه السلام. He said: No thing is further from the minds of men than the interpretation of the Qur’an. Surely, a verse is revealed with its beginning addressing something, its middle addressing something [else], and its end addressing something [else].

Then, he said: “Surely, Allah only wants to remove uncleanliness from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification” (33:33) from the birth of jahiliyya.
