In Hadith #9 Imam Ṣādiq (a) narrates from Imam ‘Alī (a) who said: A house in which the Qurān is recited and Allah (azwj) is remembered, blessings therein increase, the angels come down therein and Shaytan keeps away from it. The house shines to the inhabitants of the heaven just as stars shine to the people of the earth. A house where the Qurān is not read, and Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, is not spoken of, its blessings reduce, angels leave it and the devils crowd therein.
This narration tells us that besides the reward a person gets for merely reading the Qurān, the recitation also enlightens and blesses the house in which the Qurān is being recited in. Angels descend down on that house and the devils and Shayāṭīn disappear from there, in fact the presence of angels and the distancing of the Shayāṭīn itself is a means by which the house receives blessings and allows its residents to achieve bliss and perform good deeds. However, the absence of the recitation of the Qurān in a house means the opposite of this narration will take place. Meaning, angels will not descend there, and the Shayāṭīn approach it, causing the house to become spiritually rotten and devoid of any blessings.
This narration tells us that one should make it a habit for the recitation of the Qurān to take place in their homes. If this isn’t a practice that is already being done in our homes, then we should at least now make an effort to make sure that the Qurān is regular recited in our homes. It is even better if it is read with a loud voice, so others in the house can also listen to it. If there are children in the house, parents should read the Qurān loudly so that children become acquainted with hearing to the sound of the speech of Allah (swt) inside the house.
While this narration was specifically about reading the Qurān inside the house, in the next narration from Imam Husayn (a) we will read about the reward one gets for merely reading the Qurān anywhere.
